OVERVIEW
How to Simplify Complex Health Data for Our Participants?
Understanding health and mobility data can be overwhelming, especially for non-technical users such as older adults and student-athletes. Throughout designing MARL's entire website, my goal was to translate complex motion and health data into a clear and accessible experience. With usability surveys, Google Analytics, and SEO, we were able to empower participants to better understand their bodies and recovery journeys.
MY ROLE
Sole Product Designer
I was fortunate to collaborate with Binghamton University's Motion Analytics Research Laboratory (MARL) team from the very beginning. I worked closely with Developer & Analyst, Sara Bautista (M.S. Computer Science Candidate, University of Pennsylvania) to build and design MARL's entire visual identity and user-friendly website.
STATS

PROBLEM
Falls and Concussions Affect Millions a Year
This is a major public health crisis, with nearly 3 million Americans visiting emergency rooms annually for traumatic brain injuries (TBI), often caused by falls. TBI often causing chronic, long-term cognitive, physical, and emotional issues, including risks of dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and neurodegenerative diseases.

TARGET USERS
Older Adults and College Athletes
Both older adults and athletes face physical challenges such as falls and concussions which lead to long-term mobility or cognitive issues. We aim to improve support and accessibility in their recovery/prevention journeys.

The Figma prototype I designed as the primary reference for MARL's coders. Interactive prototype below.
DATA SHEETS
My first MARL project began as a class assignment before I officially joined the team. At this time MARL had no website or designs. Aside from only being given MARL’s original data sheet, I started basically from scratch. I had to further research MARL and their purpose. Click on Data Sheets PDF for more info.
